1. Boot the Windows 7 platform and right click on the My Computer icon in the desktop after it is fully loaded. In the drop down menu, click on the Manage option. The Computer management is now opened. In that window, click on the Disk Management option in the left pane.
2. Once the Disk Management utility is opened. It will display the partitioning of the hard drive, the allocated spaces and the unallocated spaces. Right click on the unallocated space shown there and then click on the New Simple Volume option from the drop list. A New Simple Volume Wizard will appear. Click on the Next button and then the maximum unallocated space is allotted by Windows 7 for the new local drive by default. If you want to change the allocation, you can enter the preferred size in the slot given there.
3. After that, a new drive is created and a proper designation letter is given for the drive by Windows 7. If you want to format the drive the option for formatting is available there. After the formatting is done, you can close the wizard and the Disk Management window. You can also check the drive by finding it in the My Computer window.
